My vote is leaning towards Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. It was the first true Godzilla movie I ever saw, and to this day I still remember sitting in the living room in the pitch black at two in the morning watching it for the first time.
Sure, the movie had its flaws. Okay, I was watching the rather lame international dub. But I thought the good outweighed the bad. Like Godzilla's attack on Sapporo, and seeing my favourite piece of MSDF technology, the MBT-92 Maser Tanks, for the first time (at the time, I didn't know they first appeared in Biollante).
Then of course, there are the battles. The first time Godzilla and King Ghidorah fought, I was gripping a cushion with excitement and even worry as KG seemed to have the upper hand. I was grinning like a maniac by the time Godzilla unleashed his Nuclear Pulse and then cut off Ghidorah's middle neck with his heat beam.
The battle between Godzilla and Mecha King Ghidorah in Shinjuku was equally spectacular, with a lot of the towering skyscrapers being smashed apart (especially the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices). The only thing that let that fight down was Emmi's screaming and her pouting "I know that!" whenever M-11 reminded her to do something.
The one thing that stuck with me, though, is Shindo facing Godzilla in his office. The two, staring and nodding slightly at one another as shots of 1944 appeared. Then Godzilla snapped out of his reverie, roared... and blew Shindo away. My jaw was wide open, and I was sold. If it wasn't for that moment, I don't know if I'd be here today.
In joint second, I'd say The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
