Why does everyone like Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah?

Discuss the 2nd Godzilla film era here! Beam fights, revised versions of classic kaiju, the Heisei era was a mixed bag of fun and controversy!

Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is one of my all-time favorite Godzilla films. This in spite of it's flaws.

Why?

Here are the reasons:

1. UFOs
2. Cyborgs
3. Time travel
4. Best. Godzilla. Costume. Design. Ever.
5. Genetic engineering
6. Androids
7. Mecha King Ghidorah

This flick has everything a science-fiction fan could ask for, all contained within a confusing, but interesting plot.

There's also none of the silly fantasy elements that would appear in subsequent G films. G vs KG remains a pure sci-fi epic in the grand tradition of the mid-60's.

^^How is fantasy silly? If anything, I think adding fantasy elements ala GMK makes it seem a lot more credible that supernatural powers are at work, rather than trying to explain how a bunch of giant monsters manage to coincidentally be created.

Oh, and my GvsKG review is at: http://g-fiction2002.com/GF2002Gvs.KGreview.htm

The movie itself is one big cluster. Anything having to deal with time travel usually doesn't turn out very well. Throw in ugly looking Dorats in the mix and bad special effects (seeing the dude run after the jeep just makes me laugh and cry at the same time) usually equals to crap.

Then Godzilla pops out of the water looking more bad ass then ever and all is (mostly) forgiven. Besides this was the first movie that ever had Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah in a one on one battle (no other kaiju were involved). The movie does have good shots though. The shot were Ghidorah is in the background flying towards Godzilla. Throw in Mech-Ghidorah of all things and you've got good times!

It's a seriously flawed movie but oh well. Gotta take the good with the bad.

^^Yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. The movie is frustratingly bad until Godzilla's appearance. If they had forgone the Terminator rip-offs, cheesy future technology, and hell, the whole "future" thing in general (and DIDN'T replace it with aliens, please) the movie could've been a whole lot better.

The monster fights were good, but they still had a weird Showa-era quality to them.

It's the production values on the non-kaiiju scenes that kill me. It's like watching Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. Painful.

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah was a big disappointment for me. After seeing the previous two movies, and hearing things about time travel, the Godzillasaurus, Mecha-King Ghidorah, etc. I was really stoked. I was really let down when all the movie amounted to was a cornball cheesefest. I realize that many Godzilla movies are like this and that's what makes them fun, but I was hoping this movie would be serious and dark more like Godzilla (1984) and Godzilla vs. Biollante.
