Gojira (84) is a classic. It and Biollante are my two favorite of the Heisei series. What G84 does so well is turning imagination into reality. The original film and GRA did this as well, giving a sense of what the world would be like with a real Godzilla. The characters are wonderful, and the military scenes are equally as impressive. The film's failures do not terribly detract from one's viewing. The Cybot is decent at times, but at others it is obvious. There are a few bad mattes, and the huge foot is not always convincing. I found the ending quite saddening and satisfying. The characters have a sense of Godzilla, what he is, and this corresponds with their reaction.

What a great movie.

The reason why I like GvsMG so much is that it's the one Heisei Godzilla film I can sit through all the way and never lose interest in. It's fast moving and just when you think things are about to get boring BAM a kaiju scene occurs.

SG on the other hand I cant watch without using chapter skips. The final battle has some interesting moments but taken as a whle it's completely uninvolving. Toho had some interesting ideas but it seemed as if no one has any clue what they were doing and were just sitting back thinking "Godzilla = money", getting incredibly lazy in the process.

Funny, I know most agree with you but as I'm constantly getting dragged down into debates for, I lose interest in GvsMG whenever a kaiju scene occurs. Plus, I can't stand the character of Rodan. He has no reason to be in the movie, the prop was terrible, and giving him a beam just ruins the whole point of the character.

Sorry, I started doing it again...

Because Spock hasn't been an icon since 1954? Because the other characters were able to react to Spock's death (whereas at this point in the Heisei series, people would have been singing "Ding dong, the witch is dead!" and Baby would have been like, "Coo?")? Spock is not directly comparable to Godzilla. Toho was prepared to hand over the franchise.

And you largely ignored the points I made in the post above yours. You only responded to one thing I said and ignored the rest.

 Fine, fine.

I'll concede that Rodan getting blown back was good. If only the 1.5 million other beams in the movie had had as great an impact as that.

For the record, I'm not saying every beam has to be a death blow, for instance, in GvsKG, the beams don't always rip the target apart, but they still have a sense of "power" and energy that the beams in most other Heisei movies, including GvsMG, lack.
