So, the other day I was thinking about this movie, and it's incomprehensible handling of time travel and I struck upon an idea that helped me reconcile it a bit better.
What if...
The time travel thing is the way it had ALWAYS happened. Godzilla was never created by a blast near Lagos Island, rather, he was ALWAYS created wherever they had transported him to. He still was originally created in 1954, but in whatever trench they transported him to. Then, in 1984, he was hit with a dosage of more sophisticated radiation, which bumped up his size. Then, in 1991 he was hit with another high dose which bumped up his size again. Rather than mess up the timeline by un-creating Godzilla and still having people remember him and still having the oxygen destroyer somehow in the 1995 film, the time-traveling was the whole REASON Godzilla existed. The fallout from the bomb never struck Lagos Island, and the dorats weren't fused together until CONSIDERABLY later, possibly in the same incident that bumped Godzilla's size from 80 meters to 100 meters...
though my number one complaint with the film still remains to this day. Why did Emi unleash the dorats in 1954?? Her involvement with the time travelers has always confused me horribly...
