For those that care, I recently bought the extremely rare Roadshow Home Video release of Godzilla 1985 in Australia during vacation, and I was pleasantly surprised that they used a different element than the one New World and everyone else was using for the home video releases in the US, Great Britain and Japan. There is no New World logo opening the film, the opening credits this time are not open matte like they were for the other releases, and it contains the original subtitles used during the theatrical release. Also, the footage of Godzilla stepping on the bum is not tinted red and the overall picture quality is better than the Image laserdisc: the picture is sharper, the colors are richer, and more information is available at the top, bottom, left and right portions of the screen compared to the overly cropped version that everyone is so familiar with here. The print used has more dirt and scratches giving the film a beautiful aged look just like a fine wine.
Here are some images, the Image laserdisc release is on top and the Australian vhs is on the bottom...
