^You know, I think it might be a chain. It's called "Movie-Stop" and its a pretty big and slick-ly designed store, moreso than an independent store.
They had a 99 cent sale on all VHS a few months ago. (They replenished their VHS supply afterwords, bringing those Simitars) I got some old Batman movie serials!
Anyway I just watched Godzilla's Revenge! Pretty cool stuff. Their is alot of well done scenery during the human portions of the film. Those smokestacks in the background and various other types of man-made stuctures makes it almost look like some sort of wasteland. It is really a very good story about poor families in industrial-type areas. The movie would get so much more respect if not for all that stock-footage stuck in there.
I guess we can all debate on whether Ichiro learned a good lesson at the end of the film, he antagonizes that guy painting those signs and basically becomes a part of that gang! Perhaps that painter dude was villianous? Was their a scene in the original version were that guy drowns puppies or something?

if that's the 1943 Batman serial it has some re-dubbed dialogue on the tape, due to the racist statements Bats makes about "lousy Japs" in various chapters. it's being released on legit DVD sometime soon- makes one wonder which version they will release.
Ichiro was never anything but a good kid. even after honking the horn on the 'cycle (why did the painter get so upset about that? he wasn't hurting it at all- had he just remained calm and told Ichiro to stop, he wouldn't have fallen off the ladder and spilled paint all over himself) Ichiro immediately 'fessed up to his father. a bully or other miscreant would never have done that.

The initial post in this thread brings up a question I've had for awhile now; apparently the Simitar license to "Godzilla vs. Thing" either expired or rights were given (sold?), seeing as how Classic Media/Sony Music Entertainment put out their cheap fullscreen version of this film in 2002.
Whats keeping Tristar (who, unless I'm mistaken is also owned by or affiliated with Sony) from putting out a nice widescreen version of MvsG, much like their recent SoG and vsHedorah releases?

They're two different companies.

Too bad Simitar's discs weren't anamorphic (and had so much macroblocking), otherwise they'd have been some of my favourite discs in my collection. While I'll always take subs over dubs, I'm a huge fan of the GODZILLA VS. THE THING and MONSTER ZERO dubs (especially the latter - nothing beats Nick Adams' true voice!

).
