Dear Sony...we want Megalon.

Why hasn't Sony picked up the rights for Megalon yet? You'd think they would have during that huge Goji DVD release the past year or so. However, no such luck.

Anyone have any legitimate info on the possibility of Sony picking up Megalon or even why they won't?

I realize Megalon is perhaps the weakest film of the lot Sony had to choose from. However, it's the only one they didn't aquire (out of the 70s films and those with international prints and dubs). Seems to be something of a waste to me. Even with all of the bootlegs, I can't imagine that would affect their decision to purchase Megalon too deeply.

............Well, anyway I'd love a release of it. The only copy I have is an old video treasures vhs.....and well, I've never really seen Megalon the way it should have been viewed. At G-Fest XI I saw the Region 2 being played and at this point in time I hadn't even seen the scifi print. I was amazed at the clarity...so...it would be wonderful to see a nice clean Megalon print released by Sony.

By the way

..........?

There was a great big screen print at the LA and SF Godzilla film festivals last year, and it looked great. The Region 2 is really nice as well. You just don't realize how dark and washed out most video prints of this movie are until you see one of these versions.

Having said that, it doesn't make the movie any better, just more watchable!

The region 2 looks great! I love the pastel look to it! Megalon looks 100% better in widescreen and with a good print. Hopefully it does get released here in good condition!!

My goodness! I have become a DVD nerd!!

:D

Just taking a wild stab at it, but I'd assume the reason it hasn't been picked up yet is because there's already been so many "public domain" releases of this film in the US? Perhaps they're worried that their's won't sell?

EDIT - Yeah, kidnicky already said that :) But to answer his question, most average Godzilla fans probably wouldn't buy the same movie twice on DVD. The die-hards, yes, but then how many are out there? Not saying Sony are right in their assumption, but that might be the way they're looking at it.
