Mothra's a guy, he's just a little bishonen! :)

Why do people always assume that Mothra's a girl? Sure he's got an egg on his island but if you had to lay something that much bigger than you, what makes you think you'd live to tell about it?If its because of the twin priestesses, no one attacks King Seesar's masculinity for only rising to action when a girl starts crooning. Can you seriously picture a handsome young guy singing, "Kin-gu Shiiiiiii-saaaaaaaaa". If its because Mothra's colorful, the pattern and color of moths and butterflies' wings tend to be unisex. In biology, anyways, it tends to be the male who has the more brilliant display (por ejemplo: baboon hineys).
-----------------

On this same note, what happened to the second larva? As an alternative self-contained line of descent to the One Mothra Theory in which Mothra lays its successor from an unfertilized egg (or self-fertilized, but thats too creepy) and in which twins are strange and rare, I present the Two Mothra Theory!

#2 Bagworm and #26 Whitemarked Tussock Moth.

When the caterpillars of the above two moths become adults, the females remain wingless (and in the case of the bagworm, legless, eyeless, and ugly as sin). If the female Mothra always lays an egg with two larvae inside, one female and the other male, then the male can protect Infant Island and the earthbound female will remain within the island's deep caverns or thick jungle. Toho avoids showing her because she can't advance the story any after taking up screen time and showing a wingless Mothra might adversely affect M's image.[/list]

Well...as seen in the Rebirth of Mothra film...Mothra lays her eggs kind of..."magically". lol. No grunting or pushing, it's all about the pretty colorful lights and glitter!

But on that note...Toho has always referred to Mothra as female in the series, even giving her the tagline "Mothra, Queen of the Monsters". And since Toho is Mothra's creator...I'll take their word.

i was gonna say, mothra has always been a girl to me, and pretty much to anyone else. The only time Mothra was not a girl and was even mentioned not being a female was in the Rebirth of Mothra series (in Japan just Mothra I-III, in japan it is not called "Rebirth of" or so i've heard.)

ok, another thing, I am like the biggest Mothra fan ever, you can ask so many people and they'll tell ya, hell I'll give you referances. And there's a reaosn behind Mothra and the reason i like her so well. She's a moth (or butterfly in color terms, heck im sure she's been called a butterfly a few times) but anyway, Lepidoptera are my favorite animals (Lepidoptera is another name for Moths and Butterflies.)

I tried explaining what kinda of Moth, Mothra was (since she has a horn on her tail it would make her a Sphingedae (hawk moth, humming bird moth, sphinx moth).) but this is not real life so we cannot refer to her has having a mate in some remote place, its not possible, trust me, if it was true, toho would have gone into it.
