It's possible the 'jump-cut' to which you refer Mgkeller is due to that particular scene being filmed over a couple of days, and when the movie was edited together the head position change just wasn't noticed. Even today it's not so uncommon for small changes in body position [even minor wardrobe alterations] to happen during a movie's filming.

One thing I noticed from the American version (never seen the Japanese, but that'll change later this July. :color: ) is that when Godzilla is coming ashore on Tokyo for the first time, footsteps are heard before he even surfaces. I rationalize that he was just walking underwater.

As for the wrong age of the Jusrassic era, I assume dinosaur knowledge at the time was more limited than it is today. At that time, they thought dinosaurs dragged their tails as well.

^ They knew what time the geologic periods of Earth's history were in 1954. We NAMED those, there was no "Jurassic" until we went and named that time period "Jurassic". Good lord, probably most of the paleontological knowledge we have today was pre-1954.
