Godzilla's motivation was the same it always is: smash things up real good and beat the snot out of any other monster he comes across.

Plus he had escaped from an iceberg after... what? Seven or so years? Suffice to say he'd be a bit cheesed about that.

Mind you, Gojizilla's question hasn't stopped me having a weird mental image of Godzilla breezing out of his trailer and saying to the director, "Now, what's my motivation in this scene?" or "Where are the audience at, emotionally?" :P

I think his motivation was to get past Kong, swim to America, and pound Harry Halcombe for calling him a pea brain.
