TERROR.

MENACE.

HATE...

...Cookie Monster eyes.

Welcome to: SELL ME ON!

Tonight's show...Sell me on the 1954 Shodai-Goji suit!

________

Now, the Shodai-Goji isn't all that bad. The legs are nice and thick, the skin texture is good, and the back fins are well-placed. But the head is far from scary looking, looking very muppetish (and don't get me started on the head puppet). Now, I realize it was a prototype and it was 50 years ago, so I'm not bashing it or the people who made it. I'm just saying that it is so frequently praised for being so stunningly frightening, but I just don't see it.

We don't need to sell you on it. You don't like it? It's all cool.

Oh, pishaww. Don't be the poop in the punch bowl, musuko. :D

Oh well, I'm sure there's someone else willing to give me a five-page essay on why the Shodai-Goji rocks.

I myself don't particularly mind the eyes on the G'54 suit (I think they look more "cookie monsterish" on the CG-version of the suit in GxMG then they do on the actual suit itself), but the snout is kind of "bleh" to me, and the legs are horrible.

And I find the puppet heads in any of the early Showa movies to be pretty stupendously awful.

I think the fact that the movie was B&W made this suit freakier... otherwise I might not have liked it as much as I do... But it is nowhere near being my favorite suit. That honor would go to the inspiration of my screen name!

I don't see the resemblance to Cookie monster's eyes at all, Godzilla's eyes look much smaller, more sinister looking. Heck, even those pics Cy posted don't even look anything remotely 'Cookie monster-esque'.:)

And really, Cy. You have to be convinced into liking the design? I thought everyone liked this one. Isn't G'54 one of your favourite films? For shame, Cy!

All you've gotta do is watch the film to see just how cool this version of Godzilla is. An' that's all I have to say on the matter.

I dunno about you guys, but I don't recognise the "cookie monster eyes"

(seeing as The Muppets and Seasame Street Didn't come around until decades later, wouldn't they have "Godzilla eyes"? )

Shodaigoji is an excellent suit. Considering it started the design that all others spawned from, that fact alone entitles it to a great deal of respect. While it's not perfect, the head doesn't look like a "muppet" to me. I'll admit he doesn't look so hot in the second picture in this thread. But he looks great in the first and third.
