...he's running away.

I remember an article in G-Fan about 5 years ago where the author made a compelling case for the end of the film, in fact, depicts Kong fleeing the scene. Running away from an opponent who clearly had him outmatched.

This made perfect sense to me, as Godzilla clearly comes across as far more powerful throughout the film.

What do the rest of you think?

Oh dear god not this again. Look I respect your right to an opinon but Toho press materials call it a draw and as much a I like Godzilla to be eating monkey brains its not going to happen. Its a nice idea though just not what happend sorry.

I think Keith said Toho press materials of the day didn't call it a draw at all. But he can correct me iffen I'm wrong.

Well, the way I saw the end of the film is Kong was running while Godzilla did not resurface. There was an earthquake and while it was not shown, Godzilla could have been buried by the landslide caused by the quake. Kong wouldn't be able to survive underwater for too long and if Godzilla wasn't subdued, he may have continued the battle. Thus, the logical conclusion was that Kong escaped Godzilla only because of the interruption caused by the earthquake.

Well, even though Kong indeed win the final battle, it was only on the stroke of luck of managing to have the ground beneath them collapse and Kong not hit his head.

Obiously this guy can't face the cold facts, he's letting emotions get out of hand.

Kong won, period.

Yeah, Kong won. It may have been circumstantial, but that doesn't change the fact that Kong won.
