Why the sharp decline after 1966?

The last six Showa Godzillas were made for Toho's Champion Festivals. They were attended almost exclusively by children. I think the Champion Festivals usually coincided with seasonal vacations for children so those six movies weren't in theaters nearly as long as the earlier movies might have been.

Did attendance drop for all of Toho's movies in the mid 60s?
