What if Tsuburaya lived longer?

Let's say that instead of dying at 68 in 1970, Tsuburaya-san lived to 78 in 1980: how would Toho's special effects films have differed? What sort of projects would Tsuburaya Productions have made in the 70s? What direction would the Ultra series have taken? Let's be really speculative; let's say he lived to 88 in 1990, would he have, if given enough time and money, have implemented CGI and the latest Hollywood technology?

Besides limiting the bloodletting I don't know if much would change with the films. I think Tsuburaya would concentrate more on his studio and his role at Toho would be a vague supervisory position. It'd mainly be the history of Tsuburaya Pro. that would be different.

I think things wouldn't have changed very much. By the mid-sixties, Tsuburaya was already devoting most of his time to Tsuburaya Productions. Even after DAM was a moderate success (and while he was still alive), Toho decided to try making cheaper, child-oriented Godzilla movies. I wonder if Toho would have tried more Honda/Tsuburaya movies with American talent into the seventies. I wonder too if Honda and Arikawa would have similarly lost interest in their work if Tsuburaya had lived for another decade. But would the Godzilla movies have been much different? I don't think so.

I like Nakano's use of EXPLOSIONS

I don't think Tsuburaya would have been able to compete with Nakano's work on Submersion of Japan.

There wouldn't have been stock footage up the wazoo.

However, Tsuburaya didn't really work on Ebirah or Son, so he was already leaving the Godzilla scene.
