One of the reasons I like these films is the actors in suits look like NOTHING else out there. An all cgi Hedorah would be really boring- just make it a true cartoon then.
Smog Monster is a really fun film, a true product of it's time, and could never be duplicated.
Perhaps a sequel would work, though.
