It really is quite awesome (and incredible) what some talented fans have been able to do in recent years in the area of restoration.

I'm sure many of you are aware of originaltrilogy, com. But I can't stress how amazing the work going on over there to restore and preserve the original Star Wars trilogy is. There's all kinds of projects for other films too. And the work Seahawk is doing here is right up there with the stuff going on with Star Wars. One of my favorite projects to come out of ot.com is the Puggo Grande. A guy got access to a 16mm print (well, actually, two prints) of the original Star Wars and either built or modified his own workprinter and transferred the film to video himself!! The print is quite beat up and very fadded at times, but it's such a cool project and speaks volumes about what is likely to come in the future as fan preservation and restoration techniques continue to evolve. In fact, Puggo is right now in the process of transferring a 16mm print of The Empire Strikes Back that looks even better than his Star Wars print!

Working on the subtitles actually isn't as hard as I expected... half of them have been re-synced already. The final, subtitled copy will surely be done by tomorrow.

It's bothersome that this is the most successful and popular Godzilla film ever produced, yet it has contentiously been given the shaft. Oh, the R2 DVD sucks! King Kong vs. Godzilla deserves more respect than that! I wish you all the best luck in restoring this gem back! It truly deserves it.

:)

I've seen the .avi version of this and it's a splendid job! Thank you so much for showing me the Japanese version of this movie for the first time!

I'm trying to get a project off the ground whose purpose is to restore the dubs and unique visuals of 40 or so poorly preserved US and international versions of the Godzilla and non-Godzilla Toho films (including all of the UPA-owned films sans WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS) using 16mm, 35mm and as little tape as possible. Unlike my KKvsG restoration, I can't possibly complete a vast undertaking like this alone.

It's so cool to hear people see KKvsG's Japanese version for the first time in its restored form.
