Maybe this isn't worth starting a new thread over, but I was bored and felt this was something worth discussing. Over the past few weeks, I've been re-watching the Godzilla series as a result of my anticipation for G-Fest. As I've gone through these films I'm watching some of my favorites.. Tokyo S.O.S., Final Wars (don't shoot), Biollante, MechaGodzilla 1993. Not to say that Showa films aren't in my top 10. In fact my five alone only features one film from an era other than Showa, that being GMK.
Anyway, as I'm watching these I see Monster Zero, Hedorah and I love these films. Then I watch Sea Monster, Gigan, Terror of MechaGodzilla, Ghidrah......and I realize something. I'm finding it harder and harder to even pick a favorite amongst these films. I mean there are some films (like Hedorah) that I love enough that they can't help but be favored. It's interesting because while I grew up primarily on the paramount Showa releases of the 1990s I sort of became a millenium series fanboy as those films came out.
As I grew older I began to appreciate the Showa films in a new light. Mainly after Final Wars had come out and I was left with these older films to watch and watch again. Now, nearly five years after that I'm finding that I love all of these films. Possibly more than other favorites of the 90's and 00's. I suppose that in another four years GMK, Biollante, and others will be eliminated from my top 10 and will be replaced with Ghidrah, Terror of MechaGodzilla, and Son of Godzilla. A lot of this may bore people, but I noticed it and wondered if the same thing has happened to anybody else?
On another note. Destroy All Monsters has dropped as I got older. It was the last Showa film I got to see, and I nearly watched the ADV VHS to death. I suppose after my mind hyped it up so much it couldn't do much else but slide down in stature. Thanks for taking time to read mah rant guys.
