it's the same reason they changed titles all the time for any kind of movie- GODZILA VS THE THING, GODZILLA VS THE SEA MONSTER, GODZILLA'S REVENGE (which should have been called GODZILLA ON MONSTER ISLAND) or put Godzilla and Megalon on top of the World Trade Center towers back in 1976 (blame that on the first needless Kong remake, too).
just a more exploitable title. all the Gamera movies got retitled for US tv as well (except Jiger).

I like the Kaiju aspects of this movie (even if there is stock footage).
Karate Chick Tomoko Tomoe is cool (and the ONLY redeemable character of the lot - IMO). I'll skip dishing on the rest of the Urban Power Rangers. HEH!
This movie has its heart in the right place. It just falls all over itself in places. (yes I am aware of the limited budget and how times were tough *wink*)
The Kaiju stuff (for me) is really its only saving grace.
Gigan rocks visually. He looks lethal with all his pointy bits.
Ghidorah is always a welcome edition to most films (at least at this point).
I loved seeing Anguirus in action as always. He is a tenacious little pointy bugger!
Godzilla really took some serious knocks in this film but rebound nicely.
Again... Kaiju stuff is great in this film.
