I don't know why, but I actually find Gigan a boring film.

And its not just the stock footage or anything like that, because I love Godzilla vs. Megalon.

It's a some-what enjoyable movie, but the stock footage ruins it for me. It reminds me of how I could be watching some of the better entries in the series.

I'm just a tad bit partial to Gigan  but G vs. Gigan is a little tedious at points. I saw G vs. Megalon long before ever saw G vs. Gigan, and I think that it's a more fun entry on Gigan's resume. (Maybe that's just childhood nostalgia though - Megalon was the first G-film I ever owned.) That being said, the final battle in G vs. Gigan is still worth the price of admission in spite of the stock footage.

Plus you can't underestimate the value of the corn-eating hippie.

Is it me, or does this movie seem to have the longest final battle in history??? A fun movie, and LOVE Angillas and Gigan...but the Ghidorah heads were looking kind of sloppy to me. Good movie, but I actually found the final battle went on a bit longer than it should have.

I love this movie! Probably since it was my first Godzilla flick. I remember as a kid I rushed home one night after my Taekwondo classes to catch Godzilla On Monster Island on TV.

I was so psyched!. Earlier I had seen the television station playing an ad for it featuring scenes from the battle with Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla" playing in the background. The movie certainly did not disappoint. At that point I had no idea that a lot of the FX were stock footage, and for some reason that aspect of the film still doesn't bother me. I also had a huge childhood crush on Gengo hot ass kicking Girlfriend. lol!

Good Times indeed. :D

Haha, I remember the days of not realizing certain things were stock footage. Even when I first saw Godzilla's Revenge, I hadn't seen Son of Godzilla yet so only the Sea Monster scenes were familiar. Like others here I saw Megalon before G VS Gigan, but still overall I think I prefered Gigan... Jet Jaguar and Megalon are cool and all but Gigan was the first time I saw Anguras actually do anything worthwhile and I've always like Ghidorah...

I'm not sure where I would rank it, but like briizilla, its definitely in my top 5.

My top ten would probably all be Showa age films... :!:

"Gigan" was one of my favorites as a kid as well, and while I grew away from it in my teenage years, my admiration for it has since been rekindled. While it definitely has its share of weaknesses (the hideous Ghidorah model we see at his entrance always makes me cringe), it's still a boatload of fun. I can't help but love the colorful cast of characters, particularly Shosaku the corn cob-eating hippie. While an original score may have been preferable, the Ifukube cues all fit magnificently. And the action and effects, stock footage notwithstanding, are fairly solid, especially the explosions at the oil refinery.

"Oh. Cigarettes?"
"They're for you." :D
