As time goes by I keep going back to the ending of GRA: it's a great way for mankind to (temporarily) defeat Godzilla. Whatever other problems the movie has the idea of blowing up mountains causing a series of enormous avalanches to bury Godzilla is really ingenious.
The kaiju typically have a more mythical feel despite their science fiction origins and it just doesn't seem right for modern technology to finish them off (unless it's some top-secret, experimental weapon which is almost a mythical idea in itself). It does, however, seems entirely right for acts of god to defeat them: earthquakes and volcanos, usually. GRA has humans causing a natural disaster to defeat the monster, and it's a very satisfying plot device - so much so it's used again in Rodan!
