Love it, love it, LOVE IT! One of my favorites of the series, and easily the best-made G film of the '70s from a critical standpoint. After somewhat slinking away from the genre with the too-little-to-work-with Godzilla's Revenge and Space Amoeba at the beginning of the decade, Terror of Mechagodzilla was a very welcome return to quality for Honda. It has excellent direction, a very engaging script, consistently interesting drama and plot development, likeable and developed characters, awesome monster battles, oddly endearing special effects work, and a GREAT new score by Ifukube. The film is an absolute delight to watch in every way.

Seeing the film uncut, in crisp-quality widescreen, and in the original Japanese language is the only way to watch this flick. Those ugly, edited, dubbed, old pan-and-scan prints don't do the film justice.

I'll wait until I see the Japanese version. I felt the film was kinda choppy. It is a serious film though.

I love "Terror of Mechagodzilla." It's definitely one of my favorites of the series, for reasons already mentioned above. Godzilla going solo against Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus is impressive and it really makes me root for him more than in any other movie. The monsters are fantastic, I actually give a flying flip about the characters, and Ifukube's score, while even more repetitive than usual, is FANTASTIC. Oh my gosh, I love the music. The variation of the Godzilla theme in "Terror" is one of my favorite childhood memories--I used to walk around all the time humming it, and still do to this day.

"Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" was fantastic in its own right, and I hold it on about the same level as "Terror," but for different reasons.

I think I've only ever seen this one as part of TNT's old Godzilla Bash and I've love to see the Japanese version. Awesome Godzilla entrance, silhouetted against the night sky and all, but I remember that Titanosaurus left me a little cold as a kid. I don't remember it as a shining jewel of the showa era like some of you seem to, but hopefully the DVD release will give me the opportunity to form a better opinion.
