Godzilla Vs Gigan...Stock Footage Hell....

Godzilla Vs Gigan showed such promise...and pretty much flushes it all away. The idea of a Manga artist that gets involved in an alien plot to use Monsters to re-hape the world was actually a neat idea. Had the humor been a little sharper, with a more Don Knots type lead character, this could have bene utterly brilliant farce.

But, that isn't this film's biggest problem.

This film's problem is the OVER-USAGE of Stock footage, especially Ghidorah. It was so bad, in fact, that I couldn't tell if the end of the movie took place at night or during the day.

This is because they chose to use Stock Footage (all day time shots originally) of Ghidorah from other movies. Why bother having him in the movie at all if your going to do this?

Gigan could have been an impressive enough monster, had Anguirus been left out of the movie. which he should have since he only served to get his ass kicked in every fight.

I have to say this movie annoyed me, becauee it was made on the cheap. I can see why the series was headed toward its original demise at this point.

After Godzilla'85, which showcased only one monster, Godzilla vs. Gigan was the second Godzilla film that I had seen. I was about 4 or 5 years old. I can look at it now, and say, "yeah, it's got alot of stock footage," but back then, I didn't even know what stock footage was! All I cared about was, "Look at that three headed monster! What is the porcupine-looking thing? Oh my god, what is that Pillsbury Doughboy-lookin' thing!?!" I had a blast watching this movie back then, and I still do today. I guess it depends on what kind of movie buff you are. If you have the ability to accept, and enjoy pretty much anything on the screen, then Godzilla vs. Gigan is the film for you. If not, well then, that's fine too. I like to thing of the film as a perfect starting point for any 4 or 5 year old kid that is seeing a Godzilla movie for the first time. Kind of like a high-light reel, or something. For me, it is the most sentimental of favorites, and I because of that, I can't really say anything bad about it.
