I think both 1954 and '55-'75 were male.

They were both male. "Godzilla: Queen of the Monsters" doesn't sell merchandise.

I'd like to believe both were male. However, then there's no way to explain where Minya came from... or is there?

It was always interesting for me to consider the possibility that Gigantis (Godzilla #2) was the male looking for his mate and instead found Minya when he was born. The original Godzilla's attack was a response to protecting the egg.

This one's a no-brainer IMO. Just look at what Toho has said repeatedly for 50 + years...
Toho promotes Godzilla around the world as the "King of the Monsters."
The official Godzilla biography from Toho
"He began life as a Godzillasaurus millions years ago when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Exposed to radiation in the mid 1950's, Godzilla, as he came to be called, transformed into a towering monster capable of delivering a devastating atomic blast with his breath. Since then, Godzilla has menaced the cities of Japan and fought off many seemingly unbeatable adversaries, earning him the title, King of the Monsters."
1955/56: Toho's English publicity material for the original GOJIRA reads "Awakened by H-bomb tests from the 2 million of his dormant life"
1957: Toho releases the Americanized version in Japan as MONSTER KING GODZILLA (Kaiju O Gojira).
1962: For KING KONG VS GODZILLA Toho issued a billingual press release with statements from both monsters. Kong is quoted as saying "I will fight to the last ditch in the forthcoming encounter with Mr Godzilla."
1967: Both the Japanese and English versions of SON OF GODZILLA there characters call Godzilla a 'dad'.
1967: In the original Japanese trailer for SON OF GODZILLA Minya calls Godzilla [i]“Daddyâ€

Did the psuedo-myth of Anzilla (allegedly another name for Anguirus) somehow mutate into a psuedo-myth of Anzilla being a female Godzilla?
Was "Anzilla" mentioned in GRA? Anzilla as a female Godzilla certainly sounds like one of Uncle 4E's inventions.
Ever notice that Anzilla has crept into oft-repeated internet descriptions of DAM?
Just wondering...

If I recall, Ian Thorne's Godzilla book stated the original Godzilla was male and the second ("Gigantis") was female. This had me fooled for a while as a kid, taking this as fact, but was obviously false. I've pretty much always believed Godzilla to be male, as KPA pointed out, there's nothing official that states otherwise.
Questioning where Minilla came from is no evidence at all of Godzilla's gender; Just look at Baby from MG II, [i]he[/h] didn't come directly from Godzilla.
And while named "Godzilla", the American 'Zilla isn't the actual Japanese one, so you can't really apply his asexual trait to the real Toho Godzilla.
