GvsMG 74 question...

Did Akihiko Hirata's character and the interpol agent die? After the explosion, his daughter says something like "my father!" and the main dude says something about how he did a great thing or something. But then at the end, the main character's brother (the guy that played Zone Fighter). who was with Hirata and the agent during the explosion is still alive and with the rest of the cast, only Hirata and the agent are missing.
This is confusing and I never really noticed that the brother was alive and I've been watching this movie for about 15 years now. I guess it never clicked with me for whatever reason. Anyone know what the deal is?

Yeah, that's what I figured. But the whole "My father!" thing makes it really confusing.

My take on that scene was that they had all survived, and the lack of a shot confirming the fact was an oversight caused by the mach speed production schedule Toho's movies were made at. Besides, interpol agents don't have time to stand around soaking up the warm, fuzzy feeling of victory. There's always another bunch of megalomaniac aliens that need killing.
