King Kong vs. Godzilla debate
Posted: Thu Aug 10, 2006 10:09 amI have mixed feelings about KING KONG VS. GODZILLA. The Kong suit looks really awful. There's no excuse for that.
There are things you can do with stop-motion that you can't do with suitmation, and vice-versa. I don't think they ever thought they were being "replaced". To do a whole Godzilla movie in stop-motion would be a HUGE, costly, and very long project.
I can understand Obie and Cooper's feelings about KKvsG for sure. It's a hell of a step down [visually] for the character of Kong (Except... he didn't get killed in the end! So ya gotta give Toho some credit for that...). Although Fox's THE LOST WORLD was a much bigger slap in the face to Obie IMO. That movie is just disgusting.
It's a pity Ray hates suitmation and Godzilla, he should at least respect it. I agree with what MouthForWar said, both "camps" did amazing spx work.
