Like I said, despite being considered a poor entry in the Godzilla series, it gets alot of attention. It left an impression on me alright - I like the flick so much, I'm going to buy the German dvd release! :D

I Gotta Get Me a Decent Copy!

Postby Gojira69 » Tue Aug 12, 2003 10:52 am

I like the film so much I'm not going to trust the timer on my VCR this August 31, but rather will sit in front of my tube and personally control recording the Sci-Fi Channel's airing of the wide-screen print of this film.

All of my current copies of Godzilla vs Megalon are as clear as doggie doo-doo.

One needs to see the widescreen version of the famous JJ and G handshake to fully appreciate it. (Talk to me in a few months and I'll probably be saying you need to see the original Japanese version to appreciate the handshake).

But seriously folks, if Toho were to release this classic turkey to DVD with or without extras but just with a decent print, I'd be first in line to push my hard-earned cash across the counter for my copy.

The worst of all but if you don't own a copy, you're not the G-fan you think you are.

I just loooove GODZILLA VS. MEGALON. Watched it more often than any other G-movie.

It's all a matter of personal preference, and it's not that I'm some eternally depressed fanboy who can't lightne up once in a while--GxM is my favorite G-film because it doesn't take itself too seriously but still manages to remain interesting. GvsMegalon just bores me. Even taken from a kid's perspective, the Seatopians are boring 2D villains and Jet Jaguar still doesn't make any sense. I mean, if you're going to be silly and outrageous, at least give me a lot of silly and outrageous action. GvsMegalon is not only silly, it's slow. I envy you for being able to ignore such problems and just enjoy the movie. Really, I do. But I just can't.

Hold on, CyHunter. Stick to your guns there. You're right about Godzilla vs Megalon. It hasn't aged well at all.

All you have to do is watch Godzilla '54 and right afterwards watch Godzilla vs Megalon and you'll see that Toho did the GINO thing 25 years before Centropolis did.

Godzilla is not supposed to be heroic.

Strange, Toho made both films, so apparently THEY wanted Godzilla to be heroic, so obviously he was supposed to be heroic. And if you want to see the difference in any Godzilla film form the original, watch ANY other film- none feel like the first one at all. It's an unfair comparison.
I think El Brazo was saying it was sad Cy couldn't like the movie, not anything else.

Well, technically, el-b's right that Toho chose that Godzilla should be heroic, but I wonder if the original film's creators would've liked that. I mean, considering Godzilla's symbolism in that movie, it's more than a tad tasteless to have him being a friend to children...Of course, one could argue that Goji's nuclear symbolism by the time of vsMegalon was gone, so it's really not a problem, but if you look at it that way one could argue he's as bad as GINO, so I suppose it's all just a matter of taste...but personally I think the "best" IMO Godzilla is the anti-hero, like in GvsSG and GvsD...a clear killer, but who ultimately has a kind heart under all that uncontrollable rage...
