But not Toho, Bandai, Marmit or M-1 apparently. :P

But I'm a Yog fan, so I feel your pain. The only Yog toys in my collection are 35 years old.

No offence Kpa, but Godzilla 2000 failed. They spent 1 million dollars on the film (rights, dubbing editing) and 12 million on marketing and distribution. So the total was 13 milllion dollars. It only grossed 10 million. And since studios only keep 55% of what a movie grosses (theaters get the rest) Sony/Tristar walks away with only 5.5 million after a 13 million dollar investment. If that's not failure then I don't want to know what failure is. You can defend Godzilla 2000 as much as you want but the fact that the rest of the films went straight to video says alot. Studios will rarely admit to flops (scares the stock-holders) so I think what that guy said was just PR.

While Godzilla 2000 didn't exactly set the boxoffice on fire, to call a film "a failure" solely by looking at the number of tickets sold is missing the point.

As KPA alluded to, the main category one has to look at these days is home video sales (i.e. VHS and DVD). It is in this category the studios are reaping in the profits. While I don't know the sales figures for Godzilla 2000 on home video, from what Mike Schlesinger told me, it did well enough to put the film firmly in the black.

The film most likely would have performed better at the boxoffice if they marketed it better. Even Mike would admit that they didn't do an effective job advertising it.
