Just a great South Seas romp, great Toho cast, cinematography and location work, effects (aside from the Goji suit)..... and a perfect menacing villain in Kumonga and Kamacuras.
I think it was the second G movie I ever saw, after Invasion of Astro-Monster, when I was about 10. Having seen those two, I was totally unprepared for my next one, which I had to sneak to watch, since my Dad started getting very draconian at about that time.... Godzilla, King of the Monsters was a sucker-punch of an experience that I had to deal secretly, with its overwhelming grimness, something I'd not really dealt with in my movie watching experience until then, and I had to process all that death and suffering on my own...and NOT at a good time in our family's history.
