I always loved this movie. I just ordered it on DVD. I'm going through which Godzilla movies I want to get on DVD. I have had all my Godzilla movies on VHS for the longest time. This was the first one I thought about getting. Most memorable scene for me was Godzilla and Anguirus fighting on the island. :P

My brother and I got the Video Treasures VHS back in, either, 1993 or 1994. From that point, and all the way up to now, I find the film entertaining. I do love the human drama and the narration never did bother me.

It was weird buying a VHS where the cover said "Godzilla Raids Again" and the film print said "Gigantis the Fire Monster." Funny thing is that, around the age of 8 or 9, I knew Gigantis was a Godzilla movie due to having read Ian Thorne's book, "Godzilla" a number of months earlier. I love having the movie in B&W. It gives the film a more eerie feel, especially when much of the Japanese track is substituted with American sci-fi/horror music.

Oddly enough, as much as I like this film, it's never been near the top of my list. I may have to change that... I find the film to be nothing more than good ole fashion fun; and it excels at such.

I've done a full review of this film.

Like I said, I've been inspired to rant ad-nauseum on these films lately...i've even got my King Kong vs. Godzilla review in the bag already...I just need to do screencaps and put it together...

i'm HOPING to have every movie up through DAM reviewed by January...but it's not gonna be easy...(though i think i'll get there, i get REALLY obsessive about stuff like this when I get on a roll)

Scientist from GRA/GtFM

Postby Guardian7 » Mon May 30, 2011 12:37 pm

Is there any chance that anyone can tell me if the Altered Dr. Yamane (Takashi Shimura) scene is better in the original (GRA) as I have read, than it was in the Butchered American one(GtFM)?

I am specifically talking about the scene with Zoologist Dr. Tadokoro (Masao Shimizu)... Was his scene totally added in? (Including the various footage from bad B-Movies) I get the strong impression his scientific babble in Gigantis the Fire Monster is not even in GRA).

Reviews make it sound like the scene involving both Dr. Yamane and Dr. Tadokoro wase better in GRA (If not a bit dry).

Thanks
