The movie wouldn't be nearly as fun without the great way Fuji and Glenn play off eachother though.

Really like the relationship between Fuji and Glenn... and Fuji and his sister and his sister's boyfriend... and Glenn and Fuji's sister and her boyfriend... and...

Damn it. This film is better at character relationships then any other film in the series!

- and the '60s films in general (Godzilla or not) tended to have great ensemble casts.

specifically with Godzilla...the only 60s films that i personally don't think have great characterization are King Kong vs. Godzilla and Destroy All Monsters.

King Kong vs. Godzilla I'd characterize as very good, just not quite great (although there are a few great moments).

DAM, on the other hand, i'm often not even aware the film HAS human characters due to them being so bland.

but Mothra, Sea Monster, Son of, Monster Zero...my god...some of the very best casts in the series. They could go toe-to-toe with Gigan's cast.

DAM might be my least favorite '60s film. It's got super-fun monster stuff, but the actual story and script and characters seem... empty.

I was going to start a new thread for this, but felt it be best just to mention it here, within the 'official' MZ "Invasion of Astro Monsters" thread.

Internet reviewer Brandon Tenold recently did a humorous video review for "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero", and thought I'd share it from his BlipTV channel (though his review is also assessable from YouTube): http://blip.tv/BrandonTenold/godzilla-v ... ro-6313444

And yes, Glenn and Fuij's intense 'bromance' is diffidently dealt with...because it couldn't be helped.

Godzilla vs. Monster Zero is indeed a superior movie to Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster, make no mistake. No offense to hardcore fans of the film but the previous installment always felt a little sloppy and suffered from poor special effects. This movie is a vast improvement, IMHO. While it may have set the way for future Godzilla movies to put stock footage for its destruction scenes, it just blends in seemliness. It's also one of the few exceptions where it works perfectly (which cannot be said in later installments). Hell, I even like how they included New Kirk Motors from the original 1961 Mothra movie. Speaking of which, was Mothra ever intended to be in this movie? Her absence was weird (not that it takes away from this gem, though)

Nick Adams and Kumi Mizuno make such a lovely "couple"

So after posting the Godzilla/Lennon pic in the pictures thread and wondering if Lennon was mocking the dance itself or Godzilla DOING the dance, I got to thinking.

We all know that dance was a fad in Japan at the time and it was included because Tsuburaya thought it would be fun... and of course, we've all grown to love that scene...

But I just got to thinking about how utterly BIZARRE that is. I mean, could you imagine if in the new LP movie, Godzilla does Gangnam Style or the Makarena? And how pissed we would all be if that actually happened in a movie?

Do you guys think that would bother you if you were around when Monster Zero came out? Cuz as iconic as that scene is to all of us... I kinda think I'd despise it if I was around then and I can certainly see why Ishiro Honda tried to fight to not have that scene included.

Honestly, knowing that it was a dumb pop culture fad that it was referencing for a kinda makes me WANT to hate that scene, but I just can't because of the nostalgia factor and just how often it is referenced by fans... I think nostalgia is the only thing that makes me appreciate it.

I mean... if you know what the dance is actually referring to, its no longer just a quirky scene in a quirky movie. Its a cheap pop culture joke that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Well I think it would definitely be a cringe moment, but the difference between that dance and Gangnam Style is that Godzilla's dance in MZ is a lot less overtly a dance as it is just somebody being happy. I mean, as a kid I didn't know it was referencing a dance, I just thought he was thrilled to kick Ghidorah's ass.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.
