I thought the whole point of them moving to Hokkaido wasn't really "WE DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENED" It was just people trying to make their way in life and move on from a tragedy.

Simply put, this film took the character of Godzilla, and dumbed it down a-bit to the level of the traditional American B-Movie. The ending is fantastic, but how it gets there is a bit sloppy - that I'll agree with.

The middle act could just go away and I would really love this movie. I gotta say, the whole 'sped up camera' fiasco really give this movie a unique feel that I actually enjoy. Although, I would love to see what that would have been like in the speed they had originally intended.

That's, I guess, the film's biggest flaw. It's kind of a stereotypical monster movie, and a quickly made sequel so it suffers a lot. I still love the movie, though.

for me personally, it (in combination with my other listed complaints along this line) takes away from the gravity of the situation of the city being destroyed.

[slight off-topic rambling rant here]this is a problem in general that I'll FULLY ADMIT I AM OFTEN RESPONSIBLE FOR AS WELL (let me make sure to emphasize that...I often make this "mistake" as well)...people focus in on ONE thing about a person's argument/critiques and say "well, not really...and here's why, on that one point, so your entire argument is invalid". It's like when people complaint about "nuking the fridge" or "man-eating ants" or "aliens"...they may be focusing in on that one thing, but the reality is that the combination of all those things in one 80-minute run lead to the way that person feels.

the combination of the lack of human response to the destruction while it is occuring, the lack of emotion shown afterward, the moving of the setting, the lack of reflection on the lives and property lost...all of it combined makes for the way i feel.

sorry to rant, and i don't mean to pick on you specifically, but i felt this was as good a time as any to bring this "issue" up.

I'll be honest: I'm too scared to watch Gigantis without Steve Ryfle's commentary. The Japanese version, no problem, but I feel I couldn't stand the American recut without somebody talking over it, or somebody else around to help me make fun of it. It'd be like watching the non-MST3K version of Manos, alone. And that's terrible.
