Favorite 60's Godzilla film?

Postby giantdevilfish » Wed Oct 22, 2003 6:30 pm

I would have picked GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA, but I've stated to many times why I think it's excellent and the best of the 60's Godzilla flicks. I think I might pick something different for a change, so, the second best 60's Godzilla flick is either KING KONG VS. GODZILLA or GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER. I find both these gems very underrated, the first one because people such a fuss about Kong's winning in the film, as refer to him as KINO. The second one, because it deserves more credit then what it gets, adding the island theme made the pacing quite fast. I could go on and on, but that's it.

Who makes a fuss about Kong winning? I've never heard any complaint, only debate over who "won" (stupid, I think...if the makers had intended for either one to "win", they'd've made it clearer). I call him KINO just because the 'real' Kong doesn't shoot electricity or anything...but whetever, this is 'Toho' Kong...

And I agree that GEM is an underrated film...it's got a good story and good characterization...it's my third-favorite Showa film...

Ghidrah: The Three-headed Monster gets my vote, introduces my favorite monster...King Ghidorah! :D Plus Rodan and Godzilla was pretty good. Oh and can't forget seeing Mothra getting pounded by KG too

Oh, don't worry, I never took this as an insult (to myself or anyone else). I was just saying that I've never heard anyone whine about Kong winning, per se.

And my views on GvsMG haven't really changed at all. It's okay; far below my favorite G-films but golden compared to the rest of the 70's movies. And yeah, I'd love to see any G-movie, but it's really just a matter of not having any readily avalable copies and not willing to shell out the money and time if I've got to get a bootleg or something...

I can't choose, so many great films from that decade, it was the golden age after all.

I've yet to see either of the KG dualogy, but so far my fave is MaG, becuase it's got great action scenes and an interesting story. My second fave is GEM, becuase it's got vivid characters and a cool enemy (The Red Bamboo). My least favorite is DAM--Although it's not that bad, and the miniature work is pretty cool (love that retro future design--see lhb412's sig^^), the story puts me to sleep faster than a...sleepy pill.

Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster takes the cake for me. It's just the quintessential 60s Showa Godzilla movie, as someone pointed out earlier. It's not the best, but it's the most free-wheeling entertainment feature, and as far as the Godzilla series is concerned, that's what ultimately matters.

Um, I think a close second would be King Kong vs. Godzilla....or Godzilla vs. The Thing....or Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster....or Monster Zero....or Destroy All Monsters......
