I saw it on Sunday in Santa Monica. It was okay. Personally, I didn't not like the Raymond Burr version.

I've updated my homepage by posting a photo of the front of the Nuart Theater in West Los Angeles. To see it, click on the www thingy below.

I caught the 7:00pm show at the AFI Silver tonight. There were zero un-funny MST wannabes in the rather healthy sized crowd I'm happy to say, and the movie got a healthy round of applause at the end (this is the same town that sat on their hands for "Jaws" and "King Kong" fer cryin' out loud). The only thing that bugged me was some father repeating each subtitle line to his three-year old girl, but he moved down a few seats after a few well-placed glares from me. Dumbass... I'm sorry your little brat can't read, but the rest of us *adults* who can don't need a running commentary... do a little homework before you take your kid to a subtitled movie, dink!

I caught the 5 p.m. showing at the Nuart on May 14th, and the crowd, which was nice sized, was very respectful.

There was no laughing, and the end of the film was received with polite applause. The whole event was rather somber, actually.

I kind of wished that a second feature, like Gamera: Guardian of the Universe could have been shown to lighten the mood. This is because of the dark, documentary feel of Gojira.

It was so great to see it in a theater.

Ishiro Honda's original is, without doubt, the pinnacle of giant monster films.

I didn't notice too much laughing at the NuArt...it all seemed in good humor, anyway. The "Oxygen Destroyer" must've seemed out of place to those not used to Japanese integrating a lot of English.
