My go to for director is Tim Miller. He has experience with cgi and SPFX heavy films and with Deadpool he showed that he is a competent director that can handle thickheaded fan bases while remaining true to the source material. As far as music? John Murphy. He has proven that he can make really atmospheric soundtracks as well as soundtracks that have a clear and catchy theme.

I could care less as long as it's done well.

Haven't dreamed up a list of potential composers yet, but as for a dream team of directors:
Guillermo del Toro (he's making his low budget, small-scale monster romance this year - maybe not a lot of post production and he could go right into Godzilla?)
The Wachowski sisters (not making a movie right now, but working on their Netflix show)
Bong Joon-ho (he's also making a movie with a monster in it right now)
Edgar Wright (he's making Baby Driver, which comes out next March)
Joe Cornish (doesn't seem to be making anything right now, and he was in the running for the job for Kong, right?)
Brad Bird (almost impossible as he's doing Incredibles 2 for the next few years)
Matt Reeves (the Planet of the Apes film will come out next summer)
Shusuke Kaneko (hell, why not? I'm the one making this list)
Takeshi Miike (see above)

I'm not too worried about the new director... I don't know who's exactly available or not. Could they just promote Max Borenstein to direct? Would be nice to just get Desplat back.

They'll just get someone who has no distinct style of their own...but man, I'd personally like some really off-the-wall choices for director, because why not? This is a franchise with 30 films, give me a Darren Aronofsky Godzilla movie. Scorsese, Fincher, Tarantino, hell, even directors I don't particularly love like Wes Anderson and Tim Burton. Let me see Godzilla in a movie like he's never been in before.
A potentially legit choice that would get me excited, that I think could do it, that I think could make a movie we'd all feel a lot more comfortable with: Alfonso Cuaron.

I was really impressed by 10 Cloverfield Lane so I say bring in Dan Trachtenberg to direct.
As for composers, Michael Giacchino needs a shot at scoring a Godzilla movie. His overture that played over the end credits of Cloverfield was very Ifukube-esque.

If Skull Island is a success I can imagine Jordan Vogt-Roberts being carried over for Godzilla 2 and possibly Godzilla vs. Kong. At least it would help keep things consistent. I don't think we'll be seeing any established big-name directors like del Toro or any of the Marvel guys.
As for composer I'd really like Desplat to return but it's all in the air now. One hasn't been announced for Skull Island yet I don't believe.

^But, as scheduled now, Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong will have overlapping productions. I could see Vogt-Roberts doing Godzilla vs. Kong, but I think we'll see someone else for Godzilla 2.

I'd like to see what Michael Giacchino could do on Godzilla 2 as well (I mentioned him in the main thread too). I like Giacchino's movie score work for those films I'm seen, Giacchino seems particularly adept in bringing a very fitting score for a given movie; IE The Incredibles.
I also mentioned Shusuke Kaneko as a possible director (in wondering if Legendary/WB were considering Japanese directors in general) due to his well regarded work on the Heisei Gamera movies and GMK.
Ramin Djawadi could be a good composer choice too now that I think about it. Djawadi's work includes Iron Man, Person of Interest, and Pacific Rim

My choices for directors would be:
Rupert Wyatt
He did such a wonderful job with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He's got what it takes to tell a great story, with characters you can care about, even when the main character is completely CG.
Matt Reeves
Reeves did a phenomenal job taking over after Reeves left, creating a compelling movie that was just as good if not better than the first. He could work wonders with Godzilla 2.
Guillermo Del Toro
This is an obvious choice, and probably very unlikely to happen since his plate is so full of projects. But I still think he can turn out an excellent Godzilla movie.
My first and only choice for composer is Michael Giacchino. He did an excellent job with Star Trek, blending the classic themes with the new. He could do the same with Godzilla. I also remember before Godzilla 2014 came out, there was a rumor that Giacchino was doing the score. In an interview he was asked if he was, and his response was, "I wish." So clearly he is a fan

Peter Jackson? I don't see him having anything coming out. He's worked with Warner Brothers before(obviously) and can obviously handle franchises fine.
If they go with Vogt-Roberts, their not going to wait for Skull Island. They already know if he did a decent job or not. I think he's the easy simple choice, but we'll see.

Peter Jackson has also devolved into a garbage filmmaker. I used to like him, a lot, but his past 5 films have gotten steadily worse.
