Lets hope Skull Island and Godzilla 2 are successful enough that do not warrant this type of desperate hashing together of characters.

By the way I can already predict how Kong gets thrown into this story. They have Kong's DNA and mix it with MUTO genetics to make him super huge. The End.

If this happens, it happens. I still don't exactly think it will, but I also don't get all the people who are acting like it's some kind of terrible idea.
It's kaiju punching each other. There's never a PREMISE that involves kaiju punching each other that doesn't interest me. The execution of the film itself may vary from production to production, but any "back of the box" write-up that promises kaiju punching each other is one that I am good with happening.

This genre has hundreds (literally) of other films to watch if one comes out that you don't like. Try anything. Try everything. Have Godzilla get shrunk down to the size of a housecat and fight a badger, have an actual city's buildings become conscious and create an army of their own to fight Godzilla with guns that shoot out people because they're sick of getting crushed by kaiju, have American remakes of Japanese Godzilla movies and see how they wind up different, have Godzilla run amok in Candyland. I'm not curmudgeonly enough to get mad that there might be a new King Kong vs. Godzilla from an American company that isn't as goofy as the Japanese one.

Right now i'm picturing Legendary bringing Kong into the Godzilla universe only as some sort of shared universe, not as a versus thing, since everyone wants to be Marvel at the moment

Yeah... if it happens, I'm totally fine with this. If not, oh well... we got A LOT of Godzilla coming out.

I want to say, just because Kong will/might be in the same movie as Godzilla doesn't mean they'll be ENEMIES. Sure, they might have a quick rumble somewhere in the movie for the audience, but then both join forces to take down some THING else.

Seriously though, my main question is whether Kong will join Edwards Godzilla world, or will this become a "standalone" film not related to Edwards trilogy. Or is Skull Island leading into Godzilla 2, which will lead to Godzilla 3(KKvsG/Destroy All Monsters?)

Hopefully Pacific Rim stays away and they don't try to emerge all these. It's already established in the first PR and G movie that it's impossible for them to be in the same world(San Francisco).

And something I'm wondering, the main article that everything seems based on, from ,says that Skull Island is moving to Warner Bros. So what does that mean for Universal? Is this like the deal they have with Marvel and Hulk? Because I don't see them signing away Kong's rights to another company for nothing. And even if they did I honestly think moving Kong's rights from one studio to another is a bit bigger than a possible KKvG 2.0.

That's a mighty good question; if something in all this means Warner Brothers acquiring whatever King Kong rights Universal has that alone should be big news.

I just want to point out that there's been two films where Kong has been bigger than normal... of course KKvsG, but also the 1976 version of King Kong with Jeff Bridges. Yes, he wasn't as big as G14, but he was still bigger. So, it has been done before, and I'll be perfectly happy if they do it again.

Like I, and others have said... maybe this eventual KKvsG film won't even be apart of Edwards trilogy or even Skull Island, where you can play with the sizes a bit more.... KKvsG becomes a "bonus" film.

a monster movie Universe that has godzilla king kong pacific rim and whatever else legendary can get there hands on (ultraman , gamera,ect) would be a sight to behold.

Meh. If it happens, so be it. Right now I'm far more interested to see what LP does in Godzilla 2.

This movie will be a huge money making opportunity for both Warner and Universal, there's no doubt in my mind that this thing will happen somewhere down the line. My wife and I were actually at Universal Studios this past weekend and got to see the King Kong 360 ride, and was thinking how amazing and awesome would a King Kong Vs Godzilla ride would be. I bet this is exactly what Universal is thinking: rides, merchandising, etc. This movie will be a win/win situation for both companies and moviegoers.

The only negative I see is that we have to wait YEARS before we see it happen...

Man, this whole business has made a lot of people angry. As for myself, if it happens, it happens. I wouldn't mind it honestly. It makes plenty of sense financially to do it, but who knows how it'd work out story-wise. Which, is dumb for me to be concerned about, since I don't even know how Godzilla 2 will go down. I doubt it happening, but I'm game.
