A sinister giant ape as the big bad? Awesome! To the extent that Kong is based on a gorilla, that giant looks like he's based more on an orangutan. I wonder if he's bigger than Godzilla and Kong.

Although I wasn't hoping for Destroyer to turn up as the final boss in this flick, a part of me wanted that to happen just because when I try to think of ways that this new movie could possibly get any dumber than Godzilla vs. Kong, hearing a cast of English-speaking actors enunciate the Toho-trademarked name "DESTAH-ROYAH" instead of just saying Destroyer is right at the top of the list. Still, they did come up with a hilariously terrible title for this movie. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may have sounded like a court case but Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sounds like either a collaborative fashion line or some horrific shipping fan-fiction. Bravo.

It's going to be hard not to imagine a pleasant female voiceover saying "from the New Empire collection line" when thinking about this movie now.

Personally I'm not expecting any more classic Toho monsters to show up in this (though I'd be happy to be surprised), but I definitely don't think this new ape enemy is going to be the only one Godzilla and Kong will be facing. One enemy alone isn't going to be strong enough for them to have to team up (MechaGodzilla was a case of extenuating circumstances), so I'm totally expecting a Godzilla vs Gigan/Megalon-style tag team match here, with another more Godzilla-esque enemy being the second big bad along with Lanky Kong.
