I don't think its doable. Not financially anyway. I mean, I just don't think Mothra and Rodan are popular enough on their own to get their own films.

Thing is, the Marvel movies are HUUUGE money makers. We're in the heydey of cinematic superheroes.

Godzilla doesn't have the same popularity and has a kind of negative reputation. Making a new big budget Godzilla is a huge enough gamble as it is. There's no way a Rodan movie or a Mothra movie will be worth the cost of the rights/budget for a standalone flick. It isn't the 60s anymore. This is a cute and cool idea, but it simply can't happen right now.

Let's see what happens with this movie first. It's gonna be going up against some real stiff competition next May. Captain America 2 in April, then LPs Godzilla is sandwiched right between Amazing Spidey 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Ouch!

Even DC are afraid that their iconic characters don't pull enough weight for them to copy Marvel's model. If even they can't do it, there's no way something as cult as a kaiju franchise would.

I love Mothra and Rodan, but thinking seriously - I don't see either returning to the screen in anything but Godzilla sequels.

Actually, I'd rather see non-Godzilla giant monster films feature original kaiju, like in Pacific Rim.

Mothra and Rodan are not big enough brands to warrant carrying their own movie over here. If they were to continue on with LP's Godzilla, I think new, original kaiju would be better. Not ones we've seen over and over before.

I think the movie will be a hit though. People love spectacle. And Godzilla does spectacle pretty damn well.

Do I think a Marvel scenario will happen…no.

But there's no reason it couldn't.

Again, as Marvel has proven, you can take characters that mainstream audiences may have a passing familiarity with (Iron Man, Thor) and make huge hit movies out of them.

They don't have to be on Batman, Superman or Godzilla popularity levels. If the characters aren't that popular, make them that popular. Like Iron Man.

Again, it will never happen...but boy is it fun to imagine!

Whenever I bring up my interest in Godzilla people always seem to think Godzilla vs Rodan is their favorite movie. So while Rodan may not be as popular as Mothra or Mechagodzilla, I believe he has plenty of name recognition.

I wouldn't mind to see a Jet Jagar movie in which he's a Ultraman like alien who get stuck on Earth and befriend an American family until the enemy giant monster who caused him to be stuck there attack the Earth in the last act of the movie, causing him to grow to giant side to fight this enemy.
