Make no mistake, I do not INSIST that Gareth Edwards and co. follow "to-the-letter" the EXACT proportions of the man-in-suit framework. Afterall, the computer technology that is going to be used to bring this Godzilla to life offers the filmmakers all kinds of interesting possibilities. I'm a biased fanboy when it comes to Godzilla, and even I understand that some tinkering with the "look" is going to be done. I accept that. However, Legion makes a great point about Jackson's Kong. "Okay, we gotta make sure that this Kong is somewhat scientifically plausible to today's more...scientifically plausible sensibilities, so...let's make it a silver-back gorilla with Andy Serkis' face!" To be fair though, I still think Jackson did a fine job with his movie. I didn't fall in love with it, but still...
I think that, despite what Honda and co. may have originally intended when they created Godzilla, what they eventually came up with was more unique and more iconic than they probably had even anticipated. It sort of took on a life of it's own, and the mythology itself is what Legendary and Warners has to be mindful of. To be honest, I would have no problem if Godzilla takes on a slightly hunched-over stance to make him a bit more animal-like. But he is, above all else, a monster, just like "Obie's" Kong. There is something just south of believability about him. That's the point I'm looking at.
Like I said earlier, I'm what you might call a traditionalist. I see everything Godzilla through a certain kind of prism. I was fine with the alterations made to the Batman, X-Men, Spiderman mythologies, because I don't have as much of a personal investment in them as I do with Godzilla (Batman, a little bit). I don't pretend to have a monopolization on the idea of what Godzilla SHOULD be. I'm just a fan of what I've been seeing and cherishing for the last twenty-seven years. I have high-hopes and high regards for every little bit of news that I've heard so far, and I can't wait for this movie to come out. Perhaps that's all I'll say on the matter.
