I think he kind of misses the point there, the Jaws sequels didn't work because they showed their sharks more, they were just bad movies with none of the relatable or developed characters of the original. Godzilla is the same but different. Like any good movie you need an impressive story populated by interesting characters, but part of the reason you watch a giant monster movie is to see these forces of nature. It's not like Jaws or Alien where what you don't see is more scary or suspenseful, it's awe-inspiring because these beings exist in the first place. You can't hide a mountain, especially one made of flesh rampaging through a city or fighting another like it.
