G'14.. Know what I can't wait for? The marketing

Think about it.. For those of us in the states, this means billboards, tv ads, merchandise, etc, all appearing MONTHS in advance..

I vaguely remember some of the marketing around Boston in 1998 for GINO.. There were buses and billboards and action figures galore! I saw that same teaser trailer of GINO's foot crushing the T-Rex in the Museum on TV countless times. I remember being so excited and was so happy that my "hero" would be exposed to all my friends who were ignorant of his existance to that point. Regardless of how I or any of you feel about GINO as a movie when it was all said and done, they successfully lured in the General Public to see it.

Don't even get me started on Godzilla 2000 just a couple years later.. I saw maybe one or two trailers.. And sadly when I saw it in theaters there were maybe 20 people total the opening night. By the third time I had seen it, less than a week later, there was no one but me and my buddy in the theater.

Thanks for reading my opinions :). Thoughts?

I like the premise of your idea Mr BlueHair..just not its execution...I think the PSA showing the wimpy Zilla on a television, the announcer says something like that's not Godzilla...then suddenly the T.V starts to flicker as gigantic footsteps thud in the background...suddenly the real Godzilla's foot comes smashing through the roof (ala the teaser for the 98 Godzilla) smashing the tv and knocking down the building. The camera pans around, showing dark, ominous skies, a city burning, when suddenly lightning flickers to life somewhere just out of sight of the camera, the camera pans up and over...showing the real Godzilla, facing off against an army of tanks....his fins light up again, the source of the lightning...and then he lets loose a radioactive blast of flame, laying waste to the tanks....the camera pans back to the announcer who says..."That's Godzilla"...cue Godzilla logo with Godzilla roar in background....

Would LP and Warners even be allowed to show visuals of the Sony film specifically in order to TRASH it in official advertising?

Why remind people on GINO in the first place?

i wouldn't want to see any mention of GINO (even if they could get the rights to). not that i think they'd want to mention GINO either.

I thing initially, for me as a Godzilla fan, without having to mention GINO, just do a shot (doesn't have to be from the movie) of a night scene from the ground looking towards a battalion of tanks or squadron of jets approaching, you hear the footsteps as the darkened silhouette of Godzilla walks past your vantage point....all you see really is slightly illuminated outlines of him, the military fires off their weapons to a glorious explosion dead on Godzilla. As the flash dissipates, Godzilla is still standing, lets out a vicious 54-esque growling roar dorsals light up (I would love to even see energy crackles between them like a plasma ball for extra effect) and he lets off a blast of atomic breath to another blinding flash that fades into the title frame..."Godzilla....Whatever the title is" with another satisfied roar to follow.

It solves a couple things...it sounds like Godzilla, you can see it looks like Godzilla should without full reveal, doesn't have to be in the movie so no giveaway, he breathes fire and can withstand firepower.

Godzilla's design should be leaked virally, ala Joker in TDK. There also needs to be a strong, and I mean strongpresence at Comic-Con. I'm talking out of nowhere the lights flick and we hear a stomp followed by G's roar.

Really, Godzilla is tailor-made for viral campaigning, whether this movie is new or a sequel to G'54. It can take on the tone of "The military is hiding what they know about Godzilla."

Ok, I got it. A spoof of the 1998 teaser.

A bunch of people are in the theaters watching GINO, when suddenly, Godzilla's foot comes down and smashes the screen.
