I would like to see a new foe. One of my favorite parts of Godzilla is that he has such a huge roster of foes. The imagination of the Showa era hasn't been replicated since then.

Destoroyah is one of my favorite Heisei creations, but when you sit back, it's just Bizzaro Hedorah.

I'd love to see Hedorah (as shown in my screen treatment).

But more than anything, I'd like to see invincible to weaponry Godzilla fight a brand new foe, who you could look back and say "Yeah, this guy totally is a Godzilla foe."

I hate to sound like a crab, but knowing modern monster designs in Hollywood, we're gonna get stuck with another Neville Page designed Cloverfield knock off... ya know, the exact same one we've had in every monster/alien movie since? That's what we'll get if we get a new monster... mark my words. It's all we've gotten for the last decade and it isn't going to stop soon.

Hopefully Pacific Rim breaks the trend, but there hasn't been a truly fantstic Hollywood monster design since... geez... Predator? The only exceptions I can think of come from GDT movies (the Hellboys and Blade 2 have some great looking monsters).

We've had stuff like Splice and Pan's Labyrinth and the Host, but those weren't American productions. Mostly everything we've had since the early 90s has been a Xenomorph knock off, or some gorilla/lizard/insect hybrid thing (Cloverfield, Super 8, Cowboys and Aliens, Star Trek, etc). Even the Star Wars prequels had sh*tty creature designs, and Star Wars was once the high watermark for that sort of thing in Hollywood. Even the new creatures in Prometheus weren't anything to write home about.

One of the things that makes me prefer Japanese monsters so much is the incredibly original and wild monster designs (the ones GDT says he's going for in PR). They aren't afraid to really "go there" with their designs.

I think with Harryhausen retired and Stan Winston dead, there's just been a lack of truly great monster designers in America.

Yeah, Mouth hits the nail on the head.

And I'm trying to think about all the new monsters over the years that have showed up in Godzilla films and again, I have to pass. I'd rather a Rodan, or Ghidorah than a Orga or Monster X.

Some movies/creatures that fly in the face of the point made (though it can definitely be argued they are the exception to the rule rather than the rule):
Jeepers Creepers
Dagon
Hellboy
The Cave
Outlander
The Mist
Spielberg's War of the Worlds
Battle LA
Various Men in Black aliens
Skyline (a movie ADI worked on)

I don't see the need for being overly pessimistic...I'd personally err on the side of cautious optimism if we found out there was going to be a new monster.

Oh and, Predator?
Come on, since then we've had:
Killer Klowns
Tremors
It
Starship Troopers
Pitch Black (a movie that I really want to see a sequel to, in terms of the same creatures and planet and such)
The Mist

and that's just to name a few and overlook stuff like snake Freddy in pt 3, Evil Dead II, Waxwork, Little Monsters, Leviathan, Deep Star Six, Puppet Master, the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park (notably the raptors and dilophosaurus, which are very much fabricated movie monsters), From Dusk Till Dawn, Mimic, Deep Rising, The Iron Giant, Stan Winston's creature features, and Pumpkinhead...

and while all of those may not be truly great, I'd argue VERY strongly that Tremors' Graboids are just as iconic as the Predator, and Pumpkinhead, and mostly the spiders from The Mist aren't super far behind.

No, make all the additions you want, but not at the expense of existing characters.
