Look at that. When the summer movies aren't busy cannibalizing each other, the dropoffs aren't as steep.

That's one of two problems with these huge dropoffs. The other is ticket price. If I have one more kid, I may never go to the movies again. Why spend upwards of $50 for a day at the movies when I can just buy the blu-ray for like $30 (at MOST)?

GODZILLAs drops are easing up a bit. Still may have a chance to sneak to 200m. I tell you what... I'm in shock in how terrible the overseas numbers are. Malificent already made Godzillas oversea total. Thank god we still have 2 big overseas markets left.

I would say one big market left. Japan probably won't draw much money. China is our last hope.

Very early predictions point to Godzilla opening to around a impressive 40m weekend. We should get to 500m+ if that early estimate holds.

Also, the drops for GODZILLA are starting to ease up and are staying below 50%. We should get to 200m, especially with dollar theaters in July.

Early presale indicates GODZILLA will open 2nd highest in China history behind IM3 but slightly ahead of DOFP. Question is, will it hold better than the rest of the foreign markets?

Godzilla has by every monetary measure been a success and we as a fanbase should be tickled pink.

However, I've just been curious as to why its first Friday to Saturday dropoff was so steep, and then its first weekend to second weekend.

Yes, this pattern of 60+% dropoffs is consistent with other films. But I still feel like Godzilla probably could've held better had the film been more in line with the marketing. Again, the best metaphor I can come up with is audiences were expecting The Dark Knight and got Thor. Nothing wrong with that, just not next level, super blockbuster material.

I think having a huge event film the week after hurt it most of all.

Well, as of yesterday GODZILLA passed 186 here yesterday, which means it doubled its opening weekend. Took awhile, but it feels good it reached a 2.0 multiplier.

I feel it deserved much more but at I hope it gained itself a foothold for its sequel to cash in.

With dollar theaters to still look forward to, GODZILLA should sneak to 200. It'll be a little tougher as ASM2 has passed it in the dailys, but GODZILLAS drops are becoming much better. WORLD WAR Z is also catching up in the dailys. We shall see, but it being summer is helping it out.

Had Godzilla been more must-see then I don't think the dropoffs would've been as steep.

I think all of these May dropoffs are 1.) Big movies crashing into each other, and 2.) No single picture is catching fire.

Godzilla is doing well, no doubt, but I think it could've done better. C'est le vie.

So it begs the question - Does Godzilla do better opening on another weekend? I think a lot of us were saying the same thing this time last year. May 16 just isn't prime real estate.

There was no safer weekend, really. Maybe Godzilla could have taken Fast and Furious 7's spot after it got delayed, but there would have been all sorts of problems with that. Moving it up a week to May 9th might have worked, but no one knew then that ASM2 would be such a turd (a turd that is beating Godzilla in daily gross now, nonetheless. :| )

It's a turd, but it's still Spider-man, a high profile Superhero. It already has that distinct advantage
