I posted my thoughts on TK about this, but I'll also write what I think here.
-My biggest gripe with the first film, while I still really loved it, was that Godzilla kind of turned into a supporting character. I would've preferred if, say, he had showed up, everyone freaked, attacked him, and then realized that the reason why he showed up was because the Government was hiding the Mutos that they discovered 15 years prior or something. That way we'd get more focus and emphasis on Godzilla, and not on the Mutos as much. Plus, there were never any real signs that he was going to show up, just Ken Watanabe explaining what he was, that they tried to kill him in the 50's, and that he believed Godzilla would bring balance. Then out of nowhere, halfway through the film, he pops up. Now I didn't really CARE for an explanation, after all we're talking about a Godzilla film here, but it would've been nice.
-I would like to see him be more "careless". Since there are so many comparisons to the Gamera trilogy, I'd like to see him take a similar path. While I don't think Godzilla was a "good guy" in this film, he definitely wasn't the villain. Now, I don't want him to be a villain, but remember that scene in Gamera 3 where he blasts the living hell out of the two Gyaos and, as a result, hundreds(maybe even thousands) of people were incinerated? Yeah, that's what I mean by careless. Where he's just like, "hey! I got "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" to do, GTFO of my way!!!" and just walks through everyone.
-Also, while I really would like to see classic monsters in this series, I would prefer if they changed their stories up a bit to fit the tone and style of the universe. I think characters like Rodan or Anguirus are okay, because you can explain them as other ancient creatures from that time period. But something like Mothra or King Ghidorah? I think Deity and aliens would be a little out of place. Instead of having an eternal god-like moth, with two fairies, perhaps do something like an ancient, highly intelligent type of giant moth that senses a threat in Godzilla, who happens to exist on an island with a tribe who is run my a weird supernatural, paranormal, voodoo type twin women or something. Something a little darker. That way you keep the general idea of Mothra and the twins, but you don't go look-for-look.
