At the very least, I'd like it to play during the credits somewhere.

Think of all the great Godzilla films that didn't use the Ifukube themes... look at Jun Fukuda's films and the wonderful Sato scores. They didn't need Ifukube's themes to tell the audience to feel nostalgic or tell them to root for Godzilla or whatever. If Elfman's Batman theme came up in Nolan's movies, it wouldn't only be out of place, it would be downright stupid. It took THIS long to ditch the Williams Superman theme, and personally, I can't wait to see whatever theme Zimmer comes up with for Man of Steel.

The best thing to come out of the Tezuka G-films was the scores for them... The main themes for the films are UNDENIABLY Godzilla sounding music, but not using deliberate callbacks to the Ifukube themes. THAT'S what I want to see.

my general thought is to leave it off completely and let this be its own thing.

After listening to some of the tracks from the G98 score, I wouldn't necessarily mind if David Arnold came back for this one. His main theme for that movie was actually really good, the kind of thing I could see the real Godzilla showing up to. Not saying the guy would be my first choice, but it wouldn't sit poorly with me.

As for the Ifukube debate, I feel like his music could be used in a more roundabout and/or subtle way than playing one of the classic themes over the credits or Godzilla's appearance. One thought I had would be to play the Monster Zero March or a similar theme as background music for a military training/recruitment video. That might still be too on-the-nose for some, but I'd be cool with it. Alternatively, why not use one of Ifukube's non-film pieces instead? I can, for example, imagine part of his Violin Sonata ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4WTjU5hH-M ) being the BGM in a fancy restaurant or something like that.

I want Basil Poledouris to score this film. Who is Basil Poledouris? The gangster composer who came up with Conan the Barbarian's soundtrack! Riddle of Steel anyone? Besides his name is freaking Basil Poledouris! How awesome is that?

I certainly wouldn't mind Hans Zimmer as a choice. He could definitely make the picture feel "action-y".
