Well, the success of G14 was enough to make them decide to finally start making Godzilla movies again, so who's to say the buzz and excitement this new team-up is generating won't eventually make them decide to get in on that too and finally give Godzilla vs Gamera a go?

It's still an almighty long shot, but like people are saying, we're actually, finally getting a new King Kong vs Godzilla movie, and up until a few weeks ago that was just as unlikely too.

*considers keeping fingers crossed for the next five years or so, figures he'll probably need them to something or other during that time, decides to do it symbolically instead*

You know, we have to take into account that Godzilla has a brain -

- about this size. He's sheer brute force, whereas Kong is a thinking animal. His brain is considerably larger; about ten times the size of this gorilla's skull.

I think it's probably just branding. Remember how all the licensed products for PJ's King Kong were labeled 'Kong; The 8th Wonder of the World?'

LOL it would be funny if they flashback in skull island to King Kong as they sail off with Kong you see islanders go into hiding because they realize that the Kong they took is not the real problem and you hear an even more angry, loud Kong howl from deep in the island because the real King Kong realized its offspring was taken.

Not gonna happen but an almost "what the hell did you just do to us" look from the islanders as if they would soon feel the wrath.

The rights as to who owns Kong is a convoluted mess. But if I'm not mistaken, the character named "King Kong" is owned by Universal, where the character named "Kong" that appeared in the novel based on the 1993 version of King Kong, is in the public domain. So my guess is that this is the reason why we are not seeing King Kong: Skull Island or Godzilla Vs King Kong. But instead they are referring to the character as just plain Kong.

For me, this is just fine and I actually prefer it that way. We already have King Ghidorah and King Seasar. That's enough kings for me

As far as Gamera goes.. I just doubt Toho would go this route. There's just really no need to at this point. They're making easy money of these LP/WB productions, and they'll be rewarded handsomely with GODZILLA vs KONG. Honestly, while I'm excited for Shin-Gojira, I'm honestly confused now why they want to make another film when they're making easy money.

BTW, can we change the title of this thread to GODZILLA vs KONG(2020)? King Kong vs Godzilla 2 is not the title, and it's not a rumor or speculation now. Also, a admin should move the KONG: SKULL ISLAND thread to this legendary section since it's leading up to GODZILLA vs KONG.

I'm sure Legendary will make sure Godzilla and King Kong both have opportunities to save busses full of school children, so I doubt it would be blood.

Just an odd thought... in the 1962 film, while both Kong & Godzilla ravaged cities, their encounters were mostly in unpopulated areas. I don't want to turn this into an "East Coast/ West Coast" thing, because, well, Godzilla has appeared in NY before (DAM), although Legendary's choice to have him in S.F. was initially my *hoped for* choice. However, we figure he can probably swim anywhere. But Kong, after always been taken from whatever Island he is on, has mostly been in NY, other aside from the Toho films.

So where would you like to see them duke it out... In a Major American City? In Japan? On a remote Island somewhere? Really... since this film is so far away, anything is possible.

Also just for fun, the "fictional" coordinates for Skull island (from the 1933 and 2005 remake) are here:



pretty much dead center in the Indian Ocean. That must have been a heck of a long trip from NY and Back. Both the fictional Faro Island, and Mondo island are supposedly in the South Pacific. How/Why these two are going to meet up, and where is anyone's guess.
