In the meantime, Toho is wondering... "Why the hell are we making Godzilla films right now?". I'm excited for G16 though.. lol

So we now have a title and a release year. However, if I wanted these universes as fresh as possible, I would have "Godzilla 2" actually be "Godzilla vs. Kong". I know Legendary wants to introduce Mothra, Rodan and Ghidrah, and no doubt that is what they are planning for the second G film (at least for Mothra & Rodan). But I guess Legendary wants to build things up carefully. I have no problem with that, however, I just hope "Godzilla 2" won't be the "Iron Man II"" of this universe - a weak little filler to introduce us to the next big thing.

Ironically, this is following the same path as Toho - third Godzilla movie, where he and King Kong will match wits.

Glad it's official now. A Kaiju Cinematic Universe sounds so much more exciting than just a plain old sequel. I hope they change their plans for Godzilla 2, and do a solo film for at least Mothra before she meets Goji. All of this shouldn't be building towards vs Kong, but to a new Destroy All Monsters.

As far as Kong's size goes, I actually hope they don't scale him up to Goji's level too much. I think their fights would be far more interesting if they played out like a boss battle in Shadow of the Colossus. Imagine Kong using his strength, agility, and wits to climb all over the much larger Godzilla to gain the upper hand.

Would live action Attack on Titan count as well?

Well, I've always been the naysayer of this particular film but it looks like it's going to happen after all. I do expect some compromise on Kong's size, if not both.

So now we know the Monarch is the straw that stirs the drink here, I'm wondering if they used nukes to try and kill Godzilla BITD, that maybe a Kong got caught in the middle of the fallout and had a similar reaction. Some sort of ancient gene that made him massive is stimulated by the fallout since I'm willing to guess Skull Island is in the South Pacific. That would be the direct route to gigantism.

Maybe they try to nuke Skull Island all together...maybe they try some sort of toxin approach only to return years later and find a massive footprint left behind. I'm thinking that they will equate to Kong being from the same general time that they described Godzilla and the Mutos and to better hide his presence as plausible, having him on a remote, tropical island helps the secrecy aspect.

My guess though is they make Skull Island a period piece that in the Monarch try to nuke Godzilla near the island and the fallout triggers the dormant gigantism from the ancient past. Kong remains on the island for decades growing to massive size and only after Godzilla 2014, does Monarch head back to revisit Kong only now he is massive and wanting to fight.

Or i'm totally wrong...all are plausible.

I'm very cautiously, or rather reluctantly, optimistic about this. I'll admit a shared universe was the last thing I wanted to see happen. I really dislike that mindset when setting up a potential franchise. One of things that was so refreshing about G2014 was how it tried to be a satisfying standalone movie with no after credits scenes, no obtrusive hints of things to come, which is something I remember Thomas Tull and Gareth Edwards touting about the movie. I guess things have changed since then. I was fine anticipating sequels utilizing fellow Toho creatures that attempted to be as self-contained and well made as the first.

Well, I thought we would never see the day when news of this magnitude would be announced. I'm pleasantly and excitedly surprised. Kinda feel for Toho though, as you know they probably would've liked to have made this movie themselves. I'm still excited for Godzilla 2016 and the new Gamera movie, but these next current crop of Godzilla, Kong, and Godzilla vs. Kong movies has them beat.

I think next to Batman Vs Superman, Godzilla Vs Kong is going to be the biggest movie crossover event in decades. Both Godzilla and Kong are the most famous and beloved monsters in the world, just like Batman and Superman are the most famous and beloved comic superheroes.

While I don't think Godzilla Vs Kong will pull in the same numbers as Batman Vs Superman, I do believe that this movie will be a monstrous hit. I just hope they concentrate more on the monsters and action this time because this is what we want to see!
