Letterier would make the kind of Godzilla movie that everyone expects him to make. Lots of slo-mo, 360-camera spinny stuff. Entertaining, but ultimately disposable, forgettable filmmaking.

Guillermo Del Toro would be great, but that ain't happening.

My two number one hopes are Alfonso Cuaron or Neil Bloomkamp. They have both shown they can balance the sense of dread, semi-realism, and the visual destruction I hope this film has.

Has anyone mentioned Jon Favreau yet? Fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs really like the way he was going with adapting A Princess of Mars (movie titled John Carter of Mars) back before Paramount let the rights slip. And we're all aware of Favreau's work on Iron-Man (which he went to after Paramount dropped the John Carter movie).

Benjamin Haines (and others) brought up Iron-Man in the Legendary Pictures thread, so I thought I'd bring up Favreau as a possibility.

I will wait to see Iron Man 2 before I judge Favreau. I liked ELF, but he may be a one hit wonder when it comes to fandom.

Although Iron Man 2 is looking promising from the trailers.

I wonder what Sam Raimi would do with Godzilla. Have to keep him in a short, short leash, though. With the first Spiderman he proved he can stay true to source material and make an interesting fun and serious film. but he's a bit of an egomaniac and if left unchecked... well then you get Spiderman 3, and disco Peter Parker. With Godzilla, I could see him starting the film out great and ending up with a 70-s era Megalon mashup.

If they could keep him from shaking the cam like a spastic in a magnet factory (thank you, Gene Hunt), then Greengrass might do well. He knows how to blend action and intensity without going stupid. But he does love that trembly-cam.
