The Wachowskis would crush a Mothra movie... of course, so would GDT.

WOW! I must say this was a big shock. Never expected Edwards to depart so soon. I have to say I'm really disappointed, but on the other hand a little relieved because I'm not sure if he had what it takes to make a movie with a compelling human story. He seemed to be lacking in that department.

My vote for a replacement would be:

Matt Reaves
Rupert Wyatt
Matthew Vaughn
Guillermo Del Toro

Stay far away from:
JJ Abrams
Zack Snyder
Michael Bay

Pie in the sky choice: Bong Joon-ho

Also great: Edgar Wright.

Colin Trevorrow has my vote. Probably a long shot as he's got his own star wars movie he's tied to.

His work on Jurassic World made me a believer.

Aggravated that Edwards waited this long to exit. We could've already been halfway through production if someone else jumped on the project a year ago.

Screw it, I'll direct the damn thing.

First things first, give me the budget, pay me the difference between the budget and the final cost.

Then I make a call to Toho, and have them give me a budget to make a Godzilla movie.

I'll outsource the whole thing, and keep like $100,000,000.00 and Godzilla fans will be happy they get a Japanese/American Godzilla movie.

Wait, would I call sending an American version of a Japanese creation back to Japan, importing the movie TO Japan? And if I import the work TO Japan and they then release it BACK in the states, is that importing the movie? My head would be hurting but I wouldn't care because I'd have $100,000,000.00.... YAY!

Really though, I don't give a lick about Edwards leaving...not everyone is wired like Optimus Bay who just cranks out movie after movie, genre be damned.

Give us someone good who is a fan or respects the franchise and let them have at it. Heck, many people, especially in the G-universe were ambivalent about Edwards anyway. He pushed the franchise in the right direction, let's see if someone else can take it up another level.

I would have included Duncan Jones, but I'm leery about what I've seen with WOW so far. Just not feeling it.

And for Godzilla's sake I hope the name Tim Burton doesn't surface. Last thing I need is for Johnny Depp to show up as a live action King Seesar....Giant monster dog/pirate....

Well ello love, would you by chance ave any rum?

Godzilla blasts him

I suppose I deserve that...

^If they stick to the current plan of Godzilla 2 in '19 and Godzilla vs. Kong in '20 then there will be no stopping the latter, as they'll be too deep in production.

I have a hard time seeing them ditch the sequels.

If Pacific Rim can rise from the grave Godzilla certainly isn't going to die. It doesn't take a whole lot of work to improve upon what G'14 was lacking to turn it into a cash printing machine.

Step 1: Get a big name actor in the movie and don't kill him off.
Step 2: Have over the top insane monster battles with an over inflated American budget that the general populace expects to see without blue-balling them so hard.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit.

I'll eat my hat if the American Godzilla dies here.

Godzilla 14 made more than 4 of the first 5 MCU movies, I don't understand where the franchise is doomed talk is coming from.
