That's what most level-headed fans have been saying since day one. Even roughly half the people who aren't excited/don't like what they've seen thus far have basically said that it feels like some version of Godzilla...just not one they like.

FYI just played Godzilla strike zone last night and found it to be not a half bad mobile Godzilla game. The game doesn't really have any spoilers if anyone is worried. They definitely nailed the sense of scale and terror that would be Godzilla walking towards you. Overall not a half bad game. They used Desplat's score and I actually liked it in the context of the game.

A somewhat negative, very spoilery review from reddit movies. Take it with a grain of salt:

Are you able to explain the negative stuff without spoiling too much? Meaning, was it "the music sucked, Godzilla looked awful" kinda stuff or gripes about how plot points were handled?

His main complaint was with the acting and characters. He thinks ATJ is an awful actor, and he has most of the screentime. Cranston and Watanabe, meanwhile, get less screentime despite bigger acting chops.

I suppose it just wasn't his cup of tea. Although, he still loved it in the end. I still consider this a positive review becauses he did say he loved it. but I really doubt ken gets only 4 lines

I think now is a good time to head into the basement until I see the movie. I'm not one to pass a spoiler so since I've seen plenty, I want the rest to be a surprise

I haven't been able to play the Strike Zone game... the loading bar stops about a 4th of a way in and just stays there eternally... I don't know how my computer would handle the game since the IGN preview showed it isn't just some flash game, so I guess I can understand. Maybe my luck will turn around like it did with the soundtrack on Spotify.

Damn. Well, not everyone's gonna like it.

I'll judge the performances for myself, so his views on that hold no weight for me.

He also sounds like one of those people who thought we'd be getting a bunch of monster fights. It honestly sounds like he may be a bit biased in that regard.

I'm a bit more concerned about the pacing issues he claimed there was. The worst Godzilla films are the ones that are boring.

Also, I think he might be exaggerating on Watanabe's screen time. There have been a couple other test-screening people who said he had more screen time than Cranston.

Thanks for the review clarification. I liked AJT in Kickass and and never had issues with his acting. I guess each performance is different and I'll see that soon enough.

hmm...the whole ATJ acting ability is worrying me, and even before this from his dialogue in the trailers, I wasn't very at ease with his stuff. We'll see, but this disheartens me mostly knowing ATJ is our lead character.

Well to put it in context... people weren't too hot about Charlie Hunnam in Pacific Rim, either.

Well bummer. I was kind of hoping ATJ would be better. He always seemed a bit stilted in the trailers.

As I said, though, take it all with a grain of salt. It's one review, from a guy who doesn't seem to have a complete command of the English language. No way of knowing if it's objectively true.

Good point. But still a bit of a bummer. Hopefully your right and we can chalk it up to a difference in language /taste/etc.

One thing became rather clear to me several years ago is that all too often complaints about bad acting don't really hold up when I see a given movie; it seems more of a case that those issuing such complaints don't seem to have an accurate idea of what "bad", "wooden", etc. acting really is.

Nowadays I disregard any such comments whenever I take the time to read a review, though as a whole I don't bother much with reviews since I'm going to see a movie I'm interested in no matter what a reviewer says.

For instance, go look up the NY Times review of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, pretty much anything negative people bring up about the prequel movies can be found in the review of ESB. (And even the actors themselves thought the dialogue was hokey in the first Star Wars movie, which is another common complaint about the prequels)
