They should move it to August, which is wide open as far as I can tell. Wiki doesn't have any reserved release dates listed for that month yet: Aquaman on July 27 and then 'Untitled animated Scooby-Doo movie' on September 21.

With huge movies opening in the late summer, autumn, and winter (Deadpool breaking records in the supposed February death slot!) they've got to realize that all year is now summer movie season and crowding each other out for four months or so isn't sound strategy.

What about late March or April? The summer movie "season" tends to start earlier and earlier each year and the earliest ones tend to be the most successful. It would cut on some post/screening time, but perhaps Edwards could be persuaded (throw money at him) to begin pre-production a bit earlier.

Warner Bros. has "Untitled WB Event Film" set to open on March 2, 2018, followed by The Flash on March 16, Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One on March 30, and "Untitled New Line Tentpole" on April 20.

December 2018 currently has just Sony's animated Spider-Man movie set for the 21st but there will likely end up being a new Star Wars or Avatar sequel opening that month.

Are the Avatar sequels becoming something like Guns and Roses' Chinese Democracy at this point?

I know Godzilla 2 is at least two years away by any estimation, but I'd rather the release date move back a month or two than move up simply because I don't want the film rushed in any way.

James Cameron being the perfectionist that he is (which is odd, because his films are nothing close to perfect), probably wont ever do any Avatar sequels honestly. I know he has this whole grandiose plan for several planets, and alien species, and filming multiple sequels all at the same time, or whatever... But honestly, his mission to prove the first one was not just a "fluke" may drive him not to make them at all. Truth be told, --I did not see the film until mid February (after a late December release). And honestly, it was just *meh* to me, and I haven't seen it again since. How it made 2.7 B world-wide is beyond my ability to explain.

I think sometimes people get a little too hung up on release dates several years out. I think part of the reason is obviously because of the Internet. Remember the good old days when we didn't know a movie was coming out until it actually started filming? -And in some cases, not even then, it wasn't until we actually saw a trailer that we knew a movie was being released. -If a movie is not actually filming, release dates are always subject to change, and even when a movie is filming, it can change. I'll be ready for Godzilla 2 Whenever it happens.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

What about moving it to the end of the summer, like late July early August? They have only Green Lantern at the end. Could work there. WB does not change release often, so they might just go head to head with the Bumblebee film, which might end up being a mistake.

Kong is the next big thing in the Legendaryverse. I imagine he'll be getting the attention if anything.

Perhaps we may get an official title for this movie. I for one, will be very disappointed if it is just "Godzilla 2".

I miss numbered sequels. I know which order to watch the old Rocky films, but I couldn't tell you what order the Fast and Furious films are in and half of them are numbered. Just imagine kids 10 years from now trying to figure out the order of the X-Men franchise

My guess is that they will call it Godzilla Vs Mothra (or something with both Godzilla and Mothra's name in it), since both names are recognizable and will draw in audiences.

Personally, I much prefer just plain King of the Monsters, but that's never going to happen because they want people to know that this is a Godzilla movie.

:( As if it wasn't already far enough off as it is.

And while we knew Godzilla vs King Kong was due out in 2020, it's now officially been given a release date of May 29th of that year (same link).

Makes sense: Rogue One comes out Christmas, which would give Edwards only a year and a half to make his movie. Who knows: we might have another Japanese Godzilla film between now and then - and maybe PacRim2 will fill the hole in Legendary's kaiju slate for 2018.

So Godzilla vs. Kong comes one year after Godzilla 2? I reckon Edwards won't be in the director's chair for that. The films will almost be being made concurrently. I nominate Guillermo del Toro, naturally. I still think the planned Godzilla 3 is a separate idea for a potential movie, and Godzilla vs. Kong is a kind of detour. While I'm predicting the future I'll make another pronouncement: Godzilla 3 will be called Destroy All Monsters.

Well at least the wait between Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong won't be terrible. Of course... The decade is young. It could get moved too.

... didn't finish reading the article: PacRim 2 comes out New Years Eve 2018! Well, now - confirming a release date for that movie really takes the sting off Godzilla be delayed 9 months.

December 2018 to May 2020 will certainly be eventful!

Where is Coming Soon getting the info about Pac Rim 2? It's the only site reporting that date and I don't see where they're getting it from. Plus, the 31st of December is a Monday. That's not exactly a popular day for movie releases--Although it is New Years Eve. Perhaps it's an exception considering the date.
